Gas safety information
Last updated: June 2026
Gas work must be carried out by competent, Gas Safe registered engineers. Plumbing work on the platform is matched to verified engineers. Know when to book through ArtiRoute and when to call the emergency services.
When to call 0800 111 999
Call the National Gas Emergency Service immediately if you smell gas, suspect a leak, hear escaping gas, or have a carbon monoxide alarm sounding. Leave the property if needed, avoid switches and naked flames, ventilate if safe to do so, and do not wait for an online booking.
Carbon monoxide
Symptoms of CO poisoning include headaches, dizziness, nausea, and breathlessness. If you suspect CO, get fresh air, seek medical advice, and call 0800 111 999. Do not use this platform for urgent CO situations.
What you can book here
Use ArtiRoute for gas, heating, and plumbing repairs, servicing, certificates, and other quote-and-book work when there is no immediate gas emergency. Describe your issue honestly — we screen intake for urgent gas dangers and block those requests.
Verified engineers
Engineers on the platform are platform-checked before receiving jobs. Gas and heating work is matched only to engineers with verified Gas Safe clearance. Always check the engineer's credentials and priced quote before approving a visit. After gas work, you should receive appropriate documentation (for example a Gas Safety Record where applicable).
Landlords & CP12
Landlords must maintain gas appliances and hold valid Gas Safety Records (CP12) annually. You may request certificate work through the platform; allow adequate lead time before a tenancy starts or a certificate expires.
Appliance safety at home
Never attempt DIY work on gas appliances. Ensure vents and flues are clear, know where your gas shut-off valve is, and service appliances regularly. If an appliance is condemned or unsafe, do not use it until a Gas Safe engineer has made it safe.
